Not Purple Ino Green
Scabiosa dress, Poppy tabard, Scabiosa vs Iris skirt and Plant Travel shirt - project for IF Soho New York.
A box full of Purple Scabiosa, a lot of flowers to dye with and the oxidation process plays a huge role here. I did expect a change of color on my silk, but did not expect such vivid green from those dark purple heads. Grass green, with all the imperfections of hand dyeing.
The whole box of little flowers was enough only to dye couple of meters of silk satin - just for one dress and a half of a skirt.
Iris flowers gave another shade of green. Sea green, perfect for crepe silk. Every monumental Iris flower, appearing each day in the spring garden, was collected and frozen. No matter what color Iris is, it always gives the same color.
Poppies are nice companions of disappearing Iris flowers. They start to pop out in every corner of the garden and poppy printing is always an event. Purplish or dark blueish delicacies. A poppy appears in a sunny morning, disappears in the afternoon. One has to be pretty fast, careful and really gentle, their petals are so fragile and thin.
While picking up all those flowers, I cannot resist gathering all other little herbs and each stop is like a start of a new adventure on a board game. This idea was a beginning of the Plant Travel shirt.
